How to size any UPS in three steps
1. Add up the real watts. Use the actual draw of your equipment, not the rating printed on its power supply — a 650 W PSU rarely draws anything close to 650 W.
2. Add about 30% headroom. This covers start-up spikes and gives the battery an easier life.
3. Divide by 0.6 to get VA. These APC families are rated at roughly a 0.6 power factor, so 660 W of load needs about 1100VA of UPS.
The one rule that catches most people: never put a laser printer on the battery outlets. Its warm-up surge can overload the unit on its own.
