APC vs Vertiv UPS: Which Fits Your Installation?

Where Vertiv is aimed

Vertiv, formerly Emerson Network Power, is a global critical-infrastructure company whose focus is data centres — UPS, power distribution, thermal management and racks at facility scale.

What they are genuinely good at: Large and very large installations: data-centre power trains, three-phase systems, precision cooling and the engineering support that goes with projects at that size.

Where APC is aimed

APC by Schneider Electric builds UPS systems for protecting electronics rather than for running a household: the Back-UPS range for desktops, routers, CCTV and billing counters, and the Smart-UPS range of online, double-conversion units for servers and racks. The range shares one replacement-battery system, the RBC cartridge, across the whole line.

When we would tell you to buy Vertiv

You are specifying power for a data centre or a large three-phase installation, where the UPS is one part of a facility design that includes cooling and distribution.
You need vendor engineering involvement at project scale rather than product supply.

When APC is the better answer

You are covering single-phase loads — an office, a server room, a rack or two, retail counters, CCTV — which is where the APC range sits and where we work.
You want to buy online with a GST invoice, at a published price, without a tendering process.
You want the same partner for a 600VA desktop unit and a rack-mounted online UPS.

The question to ask about any brand

“Which battery will this take in four years, and can I still get it?”

Every UPS outlives its first battery. A unit you cannot re-battery is a unit you replace entirely, which is where the real cost lands. Is APC or Vertiv better for a data centre?

At true data-centre scale, Vertiv is a facility-infrastructure specialist and that is the comparison to have with their engineering team. Our work is single-phase and small-rack installations — offices, server rooms, retail and surveillance — where APC Smart-UPS equipment fits well and we can supply, install and maintain it. If your project is larger than that, we will say so.

Can you supply UPS for a small server room?

Yes, that is squarely what we do. Send us the equipment list for the rack and we will size the online UPS, quote it with a GST invoice, and arrange installation and an AMC if you want one.
