APC’s two most popular home/office Back-UPS families in India are the BX series and the BR (Back-UPS Pro) series. They look similar but are built for different needs. Here is how to choose.

The short answer
- BX series – value line. Stepped/simulated sine wave output, AVR, good for a desktop PC, Wi-Fi router and basic electronics.
- BR (Pro) series – premium line. Pure sine wave output, better build, suited to gaming PCs, workstations, NAS and sensitive equipment.
Output waveform – the big difference
The BR series gives a pure sine wave, identical to grid power, which sensitive power supplies and active-PFC PCs prefer. BX models use a simulated wave that is fine for everyday devices, but some modern PCs switch to battery more smoothly on a pure sine wave unit like the APC Back-UPS Pro BR1000G-IN.
Which should you buy?
| You have | Pick |
|---|---|
| Home desktop, router, CCTV | BX (e.g. BX1100C-IN) |
| Gaming PC / workstation / NAS | BR (Pro) pure sine wave |
| Servers, longer runtime | Smart-UPS online |
Both share these
- Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) to smooth Indian voltage swings without draining the battery.
- Surge protection.
- Replaceable batteries (RBC) so you extend the unit’s life cheaply.
Rule of thumb: everyday equipment, choose BX for value; sensitive or expensive gear, the pure sine wave BR is worth the extra.
